Day 1 - And the War Goes On

What we’ve got here is trial to communicate.
S..Some
languages you just can’t reach..
So you study what you planned to last week,
which is the way he wants it!
Well, he gets it!
N’ I don’t like ignorance any more than you men.

The intro sets the pace pretty well, doesn’t it?
Exactly as planned, my battle against unknown languages begins today. From this day on, I shall study and memorize countless words, write a monthly progress chart, gathering pride and happiness thought the journey.

There are 52 weeks in a Year. That’s usually 365 days categorized in 12 months.
As you probably haven’t noticed, I dissected my 18 aimed languages (pun intended) into 6 categories. Remember the number of targeted languages? 18.
In words, this calculation suggests I should be studying 3 languages at a time (or 6, but that’d be crazy) a month. After 6 months, I’ll have had a quick look on all 18 languages. That’ll leave another 6 months for further improvement and achievement of initial goals like writing short stories and such.

Beginning today, I won’t force myself to strictly study specific languages at specific times, as it would be an unrealisticity leading to real failure due to limited resources. Instead, I’ll alternate between “rational” and “irrational” languages (rational being Romance, Germanic, and Slavic) to maintain motivation. Also, I won’t study multiple languages of the same family to avoid vocabulary confusion, and plan only one month ahead (to avoid a loss of motivation).

Now here’s the schedule for this month:

February: Italian, Dutch, Russian

home: Grammar
school: Vocabulary
bus: Podcasts, Italian Lingopals on iPod

as for familiar and mastered languages, I’ll listen to Esperanto Podcasts in the bus, and spend 30 minutes on Lernu, and 30 minutes on LinQ for German and Spanish. Remember that it’s just a guideline! I’ll probably do more anyway.

It ain’t gonna be easy.. but that’s just another reason to do it. - Zeme
